6.1 ANNUAL LEAVE

A. Accrual

1. Full-time Employees
Each full-time employee is entitled to accrue paid annual leave for each completed calendar month of service according to years of service as follows:

No leave accrued may be taken until the employee has worked a minimum of 30 days.

2. Part-time Employees
Part-time salaried employees who work a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week accrue annual leave proportionately to the amount of time worked. Temporary employees do not accrue annual leave.

3. Annual leave is accrued at the end of each calendar month, not per pay period. An employee may not use annual leave before it is accrued.

6.2 SICK LEAVE

A.  Accrual

1. Full-time Employees
Paid sick leave will be accrued at the rate of 1 day for each month or major portion of a month (15 days or more) of employment. There is no limit to the amount of sick leave that employees may accumulate.

2. Part-time Salaried Employees
Part-time salaried employees who work a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week accrue paid sick leave proportionate to the amount of time worked.

3. Temporary employees do not earn any paid sick leave.

6.3 EDUCATIONAL LEAVE

With the approval of the County Administrator, an employee may be given a leave of absence, without pay, for a maximum period of one year in order to receive training that the County Administrator determines would benefit the employee in the performance of work responsibilities. Full or partial pay may also be granted for a limited period when approved by the Board of Supervisors. The County Administrator may require the employee to enter into an agreement to return to his position with the County for a period of time following the educational leave. The County Administrator may also approve tuition reimbursement for courses approved in advance by the County Administrator and successfully completed. Public educational providers shall be used whenever possible when tuition reimbursement is being sought.
