The Carroll County Board of Supervisors are investigating the options of attracting a Prison facility to the county. As a result, under the leadership of Supervisor Andy Jackson, a Prison Study Committee was appointed and are working to explore all of the angles of hosting a Prison facility in Carroll County. This Committee seeks the advice, input and support for their work. The list of those appointed to serve are below. If you would like to provide input, please contact one of the PSC members. It is anticipated that a Public Hearing on the PSC findings will be conducted at the December Board of Supervisors Meeting.

All Prison Committee Meeting Dates:


The PSC have been meeting on a regular basis to gather information and make plans for further public input. They have met or plan to meet on the following dates:

August 12 7:00 p.m.
August 25 7:00 p.m.
September 10 7:00 p.m.
September 23 5:45 a.m. (Visited with Tazewell Co. Administrator and toured two prisons)
November 12 Presentation to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors
December 8 Public Hearing 5:30 with the Board of Supervisors

Keen Mountain Correctional Facility

The PSC left early to meet with the Tazewell County Administrator to ask hard questions about the advantages and disadvantages of having a Prison Facility in Tazewell County.

PSC Meeting County Administrators

The PSC are in the process of meeting the County Administrators from the following Counties to obtain as much information as possible about having a Prison in their community:
