Personal Property Taxes
Personal Property tax for Carroll County, Virginia is assessed by the Commissioner of the Revenue. Any assessment questions should be directed to the Commissioner of the Revenue at (276) 730-3080. Carroll County does not pro-rate personal property taxes. Personal Property is assessed based on ownership and garage jurisdiction as of January 1 of each year. Rates for Personal Property tax are set annually by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors. Taxable personal property includes, but is not limited to; automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, aircrafts, trailers, boats, outboard motors, campers, motor homes, ATV’s, farm tractors, farm equipment, mobile homes, business personal property, and machinery and tools.
Carroll no longer taxes livestock or any household items used for personal use. Taxpayers may call or come by our office or use Virginia Form 762 to declare any tangible Personal Property, Machinery and Tools, and Merchants’ Capital for local taxation. Please see link below for Virginia Form 762.
